T：Yasu sensei, isn't Christianity a Western religion?
Y：田中（たなか）さん、その質問（しつもん）は今（いま）まで何回（なんかい）も訊（き）かれたことがあるんですよ。
いや～、実（じつ）は、わたしもクリスチャンになる前（まえ）は、同（おな）じように思（おも）っていましたから。
Y：Mr. Tanaka, I have been asked that question many times before. Actually, I used to think the same way before I became a Christian.
T：へ～、そうなんですか！
T：Oh, really?
Y：はい、わたしがクリスチャンになって、父親（ちちおや）にはじめてイエス様（さま）のことを伝（つた）えたときも、父（ちち）はわたしに同（おな）じことを言（い）ってましたね。
Y : Yes. When I became a Christian and told my father about Jesus for the first time, he said the same thing to me.
T: 以前（いぜん）、キリストが描（か）かれた聖画（せいが）を見（み）たことがありますけど、西洋人（せいようじん）みたいでしたよ。
T: I once saw a religious painting depicting Christ, and he looked like a Westerner.
Y: あっ、確（たし）かにそうなんですよ。でも実（じつ）は、イエス様（さま）は血筋（ちすじ）からいうと、ユダヤ人（じん）なんですよ。ですから、キリスト教（きょう）はもともとはユダヤから始（はじ）まったと言（い）えますね。
Y: Oh, yes, that is true. But actually, Jesus was a Jew by blood. So you could say that Christianity originally started from the Jews.
T: じゃ、どちらにしても外国（がいこく）の宗教（しゅうきょう）なんですよね
だったら、キリスト教（きょう）は、日本人（にほんじん）と関係（かんけい）ないじゃないですか。
T: Then it is a foreign religion anyway, isn't it? Christianity has nothing to do with the Japanese, does it?
Y: 確（たし）かにキリスト教（きょう）は、もともとユダヤから始（はじ）まって、エルサレムから周辺地域（しゅうへんちいき）に広（ひろ）がっていったわけです。
Y: Certainly, Christianity originally started in Judea and spread from Jerusalem to the surrounding areas.
Y: それから、ヨーロッパ大陸（たいりく）、イギリス、北米（ほくべい）にまで広（ひろ）がって、その後（あと）、日本（にほん）を含（ふく）むアジア諸国（しょこく）にまでイエス様（さま）の救（すく）いのことが宣教師（せんきょうし）を通（とお）して伝（つた）えられてきたわけです。
Y: It then spread to continental Europe, England, and North America, and later to Asian countries, including Japan, where Jesus' salvation was spread through missionaries.
T: そうなんですね。まぁキリスト教（きょう）が、どうやって日本（にほん）に伝（つた）えられてきたかっていうのは、わかりましたけど、でもやっぱり日本人（にほんじん）にとっては外国（がいこく）の宗教（しゅうきょう）であるっということに変（か）わりないですよね。
T: I see. I understand how Christianity was introduced to Japan, but it is still a foreign religion to the Japanese, isn't it?
Y: 聖書全体（せいしょぜんたい）をよく読（よ）むと分（わ）かるんですが、わたしたち人間（にんげん）を造（つく）られた神様（かみさま）のご計画（けいかく）は、はじめから世界中（せかいじゅう）の人々（ひとびと）を救（すく）うことなんです。
Y: If you read the entire Bible carefully, you will understand that God's plan for us human beings was to save the people of the world from the beginning.
Y: そのために、まずユダヤ人（じん）をはじめに選（えら）んで、その人（ひと）たちを通（とお）して、世界中（せかいじゅう）にイエス様（さま）の福音（ふくいん）が広（ひろ）がるようにっていうのが、神様（かみさま）のご計画（けいかく）なんですね。
Y: For this purpose, God's plan was to first choose the Jewish people and to spread the gospel of Jesus throughout the world through them.
Y: ですから、この福音（ふくいん）は世界（せかい）のすべての人（ひと）のための福音（ふくいん）なんです。
Y: Therefore, this gospel is for everyone in the world.
Y: ユダヤの地域（ちいき）から始（はじ）まって、今（いま）では神様（かみさま）のご計画（けいかく）通（どお）り、世界中（せかいじゅう）にこの福音（ふくいん）が広（ひろ）がっているわけです。
Y: Starting from the Jewish area, this gospel is now spreading throughout the world as God has planned.
Y: 日本人（にほんじん）であるわたしも田中（たなか）さんも、この福音（ふくいん）と大（おお）いに関係（かんけい）があるということですよ。
