今日は、救いの確信、確かさ、根拠について少しお話ししたいと思います。
Today I would like to talk a little about the conviction, security and rationale for salvation.
1979年に、わたしはイエス様を信じました。
それから、家族と友人たち、また職場の人たちにもできる限り、機会があればイエス様のことをお話ししました。
In 1979, I believed in Jesus as my Savior.
Then I talked to my family, friends, and people at work as much as possible about Jesus when I had the opportunity.
そして、母がその5年後にイエス様を信じ受け入れました。
And my mother believed and accepted Jesus five years later.
ただ、長年、浄土真宗（仏教の一つ）を信仰していましたので、はじめは中々わたしの話にこころを開いてはくれませんでした。
Since she had been worshiping Jodo Shinshu (one of the Buddhist sects) for many years, at first she didn't open her heart to my story.
最終的に、母がイエスキリストの救いに導かれたのは、もちろん聖霊なる神様が導いてくださったんですが、
決定的な浄土真宗との違いに、あるとき母は気が付いた、そういう瞬間がありました。
Finally, the Holy Spirit led my mother to the salvation of Jesus Christ.
There was a moment when my mother noticed the decisive difference between the Jodo Shinshu and Christianity.
みなさんは、「わたしは救われている、罪が赦されている」という確信、根拠はどこにありますか？
What is the basis of your conviction that "I am saved and my sins are forgiven" ?
もし、神の独り子イエス様がこの地上に来られて、「神とは何か」「罪とは何か」など、いろんなことを説いて教えてくださって、
If Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, came to this earth and preached and taught us various things such as "what is God?" and "what is sin?"
そして、もしイエス様が次のように言ったとします。
「あなたがたは、その罪、煩悩のゆえに、どんなに修行しても救われない。それをわたしはよく分かっている。
And then if Jesus said, "Because of your sins and worldly desires, no matter how much you practice, you will not be saved. I know that well.”
わたしは愛なる神であるから、そのようなあなたがたを無条件にわたしは受け入れようではないか！
ただ、わたしのところに救いを求めて来さえすれば、そして、わたしにこころを開きさえすれば、あなたを天の御国に入れようではないか！」
“So I will unconditionally accept you, because I am a forgiving God.
All you have to do is come to me for salvation and open your heart to me, and I will bring you into the Kingdom of Heaven!”
そして、そのあと天に帰られたとします。
Suppose Jesus preached something like that and then returned to heaven.
もし、それがわたしたちの信じているキリストの救いであれば、「本当に自分は救われたんだろうか、わたしの罪は本当に清算されたんだろうか、
そして赦されたんだろうか」ということに対する確かな答えがないんですね。
If it is the salvation by Christ that we believe in, then there is no confident answer to the question such as "Are we really saved? “ or “Are our sins really atoned for and forgiven?"
確かに神様は愛ですが、その愛はわたしたちの罪を大目に見ようではないか、というものではないんです。
Yes, God is love, but that love does not mean that He should condone our sins without penalty.
イエス様がこの世に来られたのは、救いの道を説くためだけに来られたのではありません。
Jesus came to this world not only to preach the way of salvation.
わたしたちの罪を間違いなく清算し、身代わりに十字架にかかって処罰を受けるために来られたんです。
罪の代価は死です。
He came to pay for our sins without fail, and to take our place on the cross to suffer the punishment.
The wages of sin is death.
罪をそのまま放っておいて大目に見ようというのは、本当の愛ではありません。
True love is not tolerating sin by letting it go unpunished.
浄土真宗においても、母がいつも言ってたように、確かによく似た教えがあります。
“In Jodo Shinshu”, as my mother used to say, “there are teachings that are very similar to Christianity.”
それは、阿弥陀様が悟りを得て、そして仏になる、すなわちもう悩みから解放される世界、悩まない世界に到達するということですが、
その世界を極楽浄土と呼んでいます。
It is said that Amida attained enlightenment (SATORI) and became a Buddha, that is to say, he reached a world where he is free from worries, and that world is called Paradise Jodo.
阿弥陀仏は、わたしたちもそこに入れるように、そして仏になれるように、そこで修行できるように、強く願っている。
And Amida Buddha strongly wishes for us to be able to enter it, to become Buddhas, and to practice there.
すべての人がわたしのところに来れるように強く願っている。
その強い願いを「他力本願」の「本願」と呼んでます。
That strong wish is called "Hongan" in "altruistic wish".
その阿弥陀仏の強い願いである「本願」を頼って、わたしたちが本当に求めるならば、
無条件で極楽浄土に来れるよ、と浄土真宗では言っています。 そのことを表したのが、南無阿弥陀仏という念仏です。
それは、「阿弥陀様、わたしをどうか救ってください、お願いします」という意味です。
In Jodo Shinshu, it is said that if we truly seek and rely on Amida Buddha's strong wish, "Hongan," then we can come to the Paradise Jodo unconditionally.
This is expressed in the Nembutsu, "Namu Amida Buddha”.
It means, "Please save me, Amida Buddha, I beg you.”
ですから、母はよく「南無阿弥陀仏という念仏は、いろんな意味が込められていて、それを唱えればいいんだよ。そして、救ってくださいという思いがわたしたちに本当にあれば、そのことによって救われ、一切の悩みから解放されて、また罪から解放される。そういう世界に行けるんだよ」と言っていました。
That's why my mother used to say, "The Nembutsu, 'Namu Amida Buddha,' has many meanings, and we should chant it. If we truly have the desire to be saved, we will be saved, freed from all troubles, and freed from sins. We can go to that kind of world."
ですから、ある部分で、わたしたちの信仰の内容と表面的には似ていますよね。
So, in some ways, the content of the faith of Jodo Shinshu is superficially similar to the faith of Christianity.
もし、イエス様が教えを説いて、十字架にかからずに天の御国に帰られたとしたら、どうでしょうか？
「わたしの罪は本当に処罰された、赦された！」という根拠は、どこにもありません。
What if Jesus preached and returned to the kingdom of heaven without going on the cross?
There would be no evidence that “my sins are really punished and forgiven!”
そのことを何回も何回もいろんな形で母に説明しました。
I explained this to my mother in various ways over and over again.
ある時、神様は母に臨んでくださいました。
One day, God opened my mother's spiritual eyes.
わたしたちに本当に必要なものとは、神様がその愛を具体的な形としてこの世に現わしてくださったイエス様の十字架であり、歴史的な事実として現わしてくださった具体的な愛、罪の赦しなんです。罪を清算してくださったという事実があるからこそ、わたしたちは救われているという根拠を持つことができるわけです。
What we really need is Jesus on the cross , the concrete manifestation of God's love in the world, the concrete love manifested as a historical fact, and the forgiveness of sins. Because of the fact that He paid for our sins, we can have a rationale for our salvation.
母はイエス様を信じてから、本当に聖書をよく読んでいました。
After my mother believed in Jesus, she really read her Bible a lot.
My Mom's Bible
母が天国に帰ったあと、母の聖書を見るとたくさん線が引いてありました。
After she went to heaven, I looked at her Bible and saw that she had drawn many lines in it.
